Kosovo press ignores Serb murder
PRISTINA -- Kosovo Ombudsman Marek Antoni Novicki said today that there had been "almost complete silence" from media and prominent individuals in Kosovo about the murder of Serb Zoran Mirkovic in Vrbovac.
Mirkovic (42) was murdered on May 17, in circumstances which the ombudsman said "raise strong suspicions that he was a victim of interethnic violence".
"The president, the prime minister and the other Kosovo political leaders failed to make any public statement on the murder," said Novicki, adding that the only non-government organisation which had responded was the Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms.
Albanian-language media reported the murder to a limited extent and even international community representatives remained silent," said Novicki.
"This shows that the murder of a Kosovo citizen is not worthy of the attention of the public if that citizen is of Serb nationality," he added.
