Kosovo: EU police raid home of former senior rebel commander

A European Union official says the bloc's police force in Kosovo raided the home of a former senior rebel leader and ordered him to appear before a special prosecutor within a week.

Spokeswoman Karin Limdal of the EU's rule of law mission in Kosovo, known as EULEX, says the search was conducted Wednesday as part of an investigation into a man's allegations that he was ordered by several former Kosovo Liberation Army rebel leaders to kill their political opponents and suspected collaborators of Serbia's regime.

Local media identified the suspect as Azem Syla, one of the key organizers of the rebel force. The now defunct rebel group fought Serbian forces in the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo's independence bid.
